Job Overview:

The sonographer provides patient services using diagnostic ultrasound equipment. The sonographer is competent in the production and analysis of ultrasound images used by physicians for patient diagnosis and treatment. In addition, the individual must be prepared to render quality patient care by exercising discretion and judgment in the performance of sonographic services.

Qualifications:

Required:

Graduate of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health) accredited schoolARDMS registation

Scheduling Requirements:

Per Diem (schedule will vary based on the needs of the department)Evening shift

Essential Functions:

Ability to perform mathematical calculations and utilize instrument controlsAssess and evaluate patient history and physical findingsCooperation with all personnel to ensure smooth patient throughputEnter patient information, select appropriate transducer, set initial power input and instrument gain for patient size and age, and select menu items as required for type of equipment and provide consistent and optimal image qualityKnowledge of acoustal physics, Doppler ultrasound principles, and ultrasound instrumentationKnowledge of gross and sectional anatomy; physiology, disease, pathology and pathophysiologyMaintains adequate stock levels and assists in minor surgical proceduresModify standard imaging protocol as required by patient history or initial sonographic findingsOngoing daily calibration and preventive maintenance as assigned by the LeadRecognizes examination findings that may require immediate clinical response and notify RadiologistRecognizes sonographic representation of normal and abnormal structures, organ, systems relationships and relational anatomyPerforms all other duties as assigned
