Unarmed Detention Officer ($31.02/hour and $2,000 SIGN ON BONUS)

The Detention Officer is responsible to ensure the safety and security of detainees in custody, acting in accordance with the highest ethical standards at all times, and ensuring a spirit of fairness and integrity in the on-going execution of their duties. Detention Officers for the Florence Service Processing Center are assigned to unarmed posts inside the detention facility and are directly responsible for the supervision and movement of detainees within the facility secure perimeter.

Responsibilities

Conducts a security and sanitation check of the area prior to relieving the outgoing officer.

Inventory all equipment and notate the results in the logbook.

Receives all authorized equipment and ensure that it is in proper working condition.

Ensures that your communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery.

Performs duties related to the detention, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required in the contract.

Exercises surveillance and control over detainees and maintains order and discipline.

Attends to housing, feeding, and the physical well-being of detainees, 24 hours a day.

Make official entries in the assigned post logbooks that are legible and complete.

Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility.

Provides care, custody and control of detainees.

Removes detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures.

Guard's detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care and when and other duties as assigned.

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.

Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies.

Successfully completes all assigned training including defensive tactics and course requiring a minimum physical stamina.

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.

Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Speak, read, write, and understand English.

Concisely and accurately prepare and write narratives of incidents and other written reports.

Pass and maintain required medical and physical testing requirements and standards.

Exercises judgment and uses discretion in dealing with first response to all situations.

Demonstrate proficiency in methods and techniques of securing and controlling detainees by following required training, policy and procedure.

Always maintain physical fitness standards and proficiency with any special equipment assigned and used while employed on this contract.

Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information.

Possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the DHS ICE National Detention Standards.

Ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles, with a cross-cultural perspective.

Qualifications

US citizenship is required.

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

A minimum of 1 year of security, law enforcement or military experience preferred.

Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record).

Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.

Pass all pre-employment and random drug tests.

Pass a medical examination and meet health requirements.

At least 21 years of age.

Possess a valid state driver's license.

Ability to obtain and maintain a state security guard license.

Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours and compliance inspections in varied weather conditions.

Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend and reach for extended periods of time.

Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.

Ability to work without restrictions and limitations.

Ability to greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public.

Capability of following and interpreting/understanding written and verbal orders, policies and regulations, printed rules and regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and can compose written and oral reports.

Ability to exercise good judgment: courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities.

Ability to maintain poise and self-control during potential emergencies and unexpected situations that may involve mental and physical stress such as disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations.

Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information.

Pass a medical examination and all pre-employment/random drug tests.

Possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE National Detention Standards.

Demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles; with a cross cultural perspective.

Maintain current/physical residency in the continental United States.

This position requires the candidate to maintain physical fitness standards and must be able to pass and maintain required physical testing requirements and standards which includes:

Must be able to lift heavy object up to 50lbs frequently and up to 70lbs occasionally.

Must be able to push a wheel chair bound individual weighing up to 300 lbs and helping individual in and out of chair.

Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, twisting, reaching overhead and climb stairs, ladders and slopes periodically.

Strictly maintain physical fitness standards for law enforcement related position throughout your employment under this contract.

Pay & Benefits:

Hourly Rate: $30.26 plus H&W Rate and $2,000 Sign on Bonus.
