Job Title: Underwriter - Liability

Reporting to: Head of Delegated Underwriting and Canadian Liability

Position Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week

Hybrid: Minimum 4 days in the office

Job Purpose:

To support the Head of Delegated Underwriting and Canadian Liability with the management, development, underwriting and administration of the Canadian binding authority and open market Liability account.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting new Canadian enquiries, renewals, mid-term amendments and referrals under delegated authority arrangements and in the open market Providing a service to and developing relationships with a panel of Lloyd’s brokersAssisting with the management and reporting of Canadian binding authoritiesCollating information to facilitate the monitoring of the performance of the Canadian accountAttending broker / client / coverholder meetingsLiaising with claims personnel and responding to requests for informationUndertaking specific ad-hoc projects as and when requiredAssisting colleagues within the Professional Risks division as requiredLiaising with administrative support staff, and providing assistance where requiredAttending in house / external training sessions and actively maintaining own training record

 

Performance Objectives:  

To maintain and strengthen existing client and broker relationshipsTo create and nurture new client and broker relationshipsTo help develop and manage the portfolio

Skills and Experience Specification:

Essential:

A minimum of three years’ relevant Liability experience with a Lloyd’s syndicate, London Market insurance company, or BrokerExcellent organizational skills to assist in the management and reporting of the Canadian portfolioExcellent communication skills (verbal and written) to aid broker and cover holder developmentStrong negotiating and business/relationship development skillsProven ability to solve problems and meet deadlinesMinimum 3 ‘A’ levels at Grade C or above (or equivalent)

Desirable:

Knowledge of Canadian SME Liability businessExperience of handling binding authority agreementsKnowledge of London Market/Lloyd’s placement/administrative processesRelevant insurance qualificationsA high level of IT literacy, including Word and Excel
