Underwriter Worker CompensationAbout the role:
DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking an Underwriter, Workers Compensation to join its subsidiary EIURS. The Underwriter will work on renewal policies and new business submissions for Workers Compensation for retail agents and wholesale brokers.
Underwriter will be a part of EIURS WC team and report to the AVP of EIURS Workers Compensation, and ultimately the President of EIURS. For certain underwriting matters and program strategy the Underwriter will also have an indirect reporting relationship with Senior Vice President of Workers Compensation. Underwriter will work alongside other Underwriters on the team to learn the business.
Duties include reviewing submissions, rating, quoting, binding new and renewal business, servicing existing business. A more detailed explanation of job duties is below. More responsibilities and duties may arise as presented on the job and as outlined below. This role is going to have some dynamic elements that will change as the underwriter gains experience.
Our program operates under an underwriting authority agreement with our carrier partners and the underwriter will be familiar with that document and work within the confines of the agreement. The underwriter will work closely with referral underwriters to make submissions on business that falls outside of the authority agreement.
The underwriter is expected to learn Workers Compensation rules and regulations as necessary to this position. Access to rating manuals will be provided. Training to take place on the job via hands on learning and possibly supplemented with some certifications/educational resources.
The underwriter is expected to work independently and autonomously on most tasks once it is determined by their manager that they are ready. Once training is completed, and expected knowledge and comfort level is achieved, underwriting authority may been granted. To start, underwriter will not have authority.

Essential Functions:
New Business
Analyze new submission submissions for acceptability. Review applications, loss runs, websites, emods, safety plans, etc.
Communicate declination or need for additional information to broker/agent.
Determine if accounts are a fit for our in-house authority or if referral is required.
Complete thorough, accurate, detailed underwriting notes to document the uw’s though process
Submit clear, detailed referrals to Nationwide (when required).
Generate quote documents and send to broker/agent
Generate binder/invoice and sent to broker/agent
Handle post-bind concerns and ongoing account questions and routine service
Create complete files
Renewal business
Review renewal accounts 90 days from effective to determine eligibility for renewal
Solicit renewal information from agent/broker
Determine if accounts are a fit for our in-house authority or if referral is required.
Complete thorough, accurate, detailed underwriting notes to document the uw’s though process
Quote renewal using in-house authority or refer if necessary
Bind/invoice renewal
Handle post-bind concerns and ongoing account questions and routine service
Audits
Assist auditors with contact information for agent/broker and insured
Provide auditor information to the agent/broker
Handle audit disputes and facilitate communication between the insured and Nationwide
Cross Sell
Work with other business units (Contractors, Environmental, NBIS) to solicit Workers Compensation business
Marketing
2-3 trips per year to see new and existing agents/brokers
Find and solicit new potential agents
Respond to appetite questions from potential agent/brokers
Job Requirements (education, experience, skills):
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business or a similar major is required.
5+ years’ experience in workers compensation underwriting highly preferred.
