The Underwriting Analyst position involves assisting the CMBS/Investor Placement Underwriting team in processing off- balance sheet permanent loan requests pursuant to our guidelines and within the credit risk parameters of KeyBank. Underwriting Analysts assist Senior Underwriters and Underwriters in preparing underwriting models and credit memos for submission to Credit Committee, complete administrative tasks and projects and work toward gaining the experience to underwrite loans under the supervision and guidance of underwriting managers.
Essential Job Functions
An Underwriting Analyst will be expected to assist the Underwriting team by completing administrative and analytic tasks as assigned by the Underwriter. These tasks will include reviewing third party reports, completing portions of the underwriting spreads and credit memo, as well as coordinating with our offshore resources. Ideally, the Underwriting Analyst can complete these tasks with minimal supervision and a sense of urgency. In addition, the Underwriting Analyst will interact with the Borrower and third-party vendors in collecting due diligence and relaying questions/comments from underwriting. An Underwriting Analyst may conduct Property inspections independently following training by an Underwriter. An Underwriting Analyst must demonstrate the ability to clearly articulate deal specifics, as well as time management skills that allows them to prioritize assignments and meet all timing milestones from application to loan closing. Additional requests may be made from the Securitization Team as asset summaries are reviewed by rating agencies and b-buyers, including Q&A requests. The expectation is for Underwriting Analyst to learn about the different CRE property types, systems, processes, underwriting modeling, and credit memo preparation and eventually begin to underwriter loans with supervision as they grow into an Underwriter role within 1.5-2.5 years depending on proven progression in the role and past experience.
Required Qualifications
Candidate should have 0-3 years’ experience in finance and real estate and commercial lending as well as strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks is critical.
Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Must be proficient in Word and Excel. Must be able to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
Must have college degree or equivalent experience.
Must be able to work in the local Key office at least 4 days per week.
