The Underwriting Assistant (UA) position is responsible for assisting the underwriters in rating, managing data collections and issuance of our policies. Job duties will be assigned to the UA based on several factors, including but not necessarily limited to performance, experience and qualifications and may vary from UA to UA.
Job Duties for the position include:
1. Responsible for calculating the rates and premium amounts due us from our customers for the products that we provide to them
2. Preparing policies and billings for our customers
3. Analyzing data from Underwriters’ instructions to issue policies that are new or expiring, using computer programs and rating manuals, calculates and recording premium rates due from our customers for insurance policies.
4. Completes endorsements, applying pricing modification factors to premiums as instructed by the underwriter
5. Completes and reviews worksheets, writing scratch copies of policy forms and indicating information on expiring policies from which new policies will be processed
6. Completes sections of premium coding accounting records for each processed transaction
7. Verifies corrections of each others work to insure quality product is produced for our customers
8. Works with and establishes solid working relationships with Underwriters, Marketing, Claims, and other corporate functions
9. Underwriter Assistant may interact directly with brokers and business partners on information gathering
10. Works with our Company Partners in monitoring endorsement and policy issuance
11. Process simple automatic renewals based on set renewal criteria
12. Regularly works with Underwriters to clarify issues that should be considered in calculating premium rates; with the Lead Underwriting UA to clarify technical issues; and with members of the Accounting department if discrepancies arise in the account coding of premium amounts due from our customers
13. Complete experience rating for underwriters
14. Provide assistance to the underwriters in collecting rating information
15. The Underwriting Assistant provides support to the underwriting function the position is important to us because it helps us to maintain our reputation for consistent, high quality service by quickly and accurately providing premium calculation information to our underwriting staff and policies to our customers. This work includes: Assisting, as directed by the Underwriting Services Supervisor.
16. Other duties as assigned or authorized by the Vice President - Underwriting or Underwriting Services Supervisor.
-Hours: 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM and Lunch: 12:00 - 12:45
Qualifications
-2+ years of administrative or data entry skills
-Underwriting experience highly preferred
Required skills/abilities:
1. Attention to detail
2. Mathematical ability
3. E Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Applications (Excel & Word) - Must take an excel assessment and pass 70% or higher
5. Critical and Analytical thinking capabilities
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00/hr.
