Large Account Underwriter  

This role reviews and underwrites large books of business, diverse accounts, and evaluates complex risk scenarios or situations and is responsible for contributing to target profit and loss metrics for an assigned book of business. This role will act as a lead within underwriting, perform training with individuals or groups, and answer questions for lower-level underwriters.

Evaluates and assesses risk on more complex applications, renewals, and reinstatements and makes decisions as to whether a risk is acceptable. Responsible for contributing to target profit and loss metrics for assigned portfolio. Recommends pricing decisions in line with retention objectives and actively interacts with internal and external customers to enhance the business relationship and improve retention ratios. Considers alternative options of insurance, such as facultative reinsurance, as part of their determination of risk eligibility. Constructs complex policy and coverage structures to meet large account needs Understands the company’s appetite for reinsured exposure and retention limits. May work directly in the field with agents to underwrite and bind business. Provides product knowledge transfer to agents and underwriters and assists agents and field management on changes in guidelines and processes via teleconference, webinar, and in-person presentations. Mentors lower-level underwriters on advanced or complex risks. Educates, coaches, and trains agents on underwriting procedures, philosophy, and products. Independently leads and coordinates projects outside normal job duties, which frequently involves working with others within and outside the department. Significant levels of familiarity with agents and their staff and continually reassess assigned risks for profitability and exposure. Provides support or guidance in absence of the manager, acting as a lead team member.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree. Eight to 10 years of Underwriting experience.

 

Salary for this position can range from $63,000 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $107,542.50 for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. In review of candidate qualifications, another job level may be considered. Application deadline: November 30th, 2024 or until filled, whichever comes first
