ResponsibilitiesThe Nautilus underwriting internship opportunity provides a paid five-week immersive experience on site in our Scottsdale office within the Underwriting Department.
Throughout the course of this program, interns will reside within the underwriting department, developing their knowledge of insurance and underwriting basics while working alongside our highly skilled underwriters. Additionally, interns may be given training focused on improving their personal business skills in areas such as: resume building, job interviews and professional presence.
Actively participate in internal underwriting classes, including field trips and project work. Complete Assistant Underwriter tasks including policy review, inspection review and renewal handling. Shadow underwriters and assist with underwriting tasks as assigned. Lead and participate in projects that support the Underwriting department goals and objectives. Rotate throughout the company to gain and apply knowledge on insurance company operations. Create, analyze and interpret data from various systems and underwriting resources. Refine workplace skills through resume review, interview practice, personality profile discussion and performance review. Maintain confidentiality with discretion and integrity with both internal and external information. Project a professional company image through internal and external customer interaction.Qualifications Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in insurance, actuarial science, or business related coursework at a 4-year accredited university. Interest in a career within the insurance industry Demonstrate strong writing and research skills Demonstrate self-motivation, analytical thinking, relationship building and a solid work ethic. Basic Computer knowledge – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Capability to learn and utilize various underwriting applications to determine accurate classifications and calculate rates and premium charges using approved rating methods.
Ability to be on site five days per week in our Scottsdale headquarters.
