The department sees a variety of patients from newborns to geriatrics who come by ambulance or walk in. the Emergency Department provides the initial treatment and stabilization of patients who come with a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries, some of which can be life threatening. The Emergency Department Unit Clerk is the communications coordinator and is responsible for clerical work on the unit. Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. **Service** + Utilizes current technology and electronic medical record to complete duties efficiently. + Utilizes electronic medical record to facilitate patient flow in the department. + Promotes family-centered care appropriate to age of patients served in the emergency department. + Coordinates and prioritizes the dissemination of information. + Manages clerical supplies, i.e., ordering, obtaining, transporting, storing, filing, etc. + Adheres to unit specific employee accountabilities. + Is flexible with assignments and work load, and maintains personal performance standards and skills. + Utilizes cost effective measures consistent with the needs of the users, established standards and the hospital’s budgetary guidelines. + Exercises and promotes effective communication in a multidisciplinary team approach. **Financial** + Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Able to type accurately. Experienced in Microsoft Office application software. **License(s)/Certification(s):** Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. **Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:** Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
