Unit Director - Child and Adolescent II
**Western Psychiatric Hospital is looking for a Unit Director to oversee our Child and Adolescent II (CA II) Department for its Oakland location located on the 5th Floor. The Child/Adolescent II unit is a brand new 12 bed unit which specializes in the treatment of behavioral and emotional problems of children and adolescents typically between 13 and 18 years old.** **_This position is eligible for a $15,000 sign on bonus with a 2-year work commitment!_** The Unit Director is responsible 24/7 for leading their area to ensure excellent patient and employee experiences. They enhance patient care quality, create a healthy workplace, and manage clinical and administrative functions. Key duties include collaborating on patient outcomes, setting clinical quality priorities, supporting shared governance, and improving safety. They also handle staff selection, hiring, orientation, performance management, and budget oversight. **Responsibilities:** · Collaborates with medical staff to monitor patient outcomes, set clinical quality priorities, and implement safety initiatives. Uses research and evidence-based practices to improve clinical care and shares learnings across units. Monitors quality indicators, develops action plans to address concerns, and analyzes satisfaction data to improve outcomes. Encourages staff nurse involvement in evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives. · Builds and maintains productive relationships through mentoring and positive communication. Resolves conflicts effectively and acknowledges contributions. Plans work schedules to ensure safety and a healthy lifestyle. Communicates clearly to engage the audience. Coaches staff on cultural diversity and addresses workplace issues. Creates an inclusive environment that values differences. · Creates a shared vision using critical thinking and data to develop the department's vision and operational plan. Involves staff and stakeholders in a shared governance model. Manages complex change and supports staff during transitions. Uses interpersonal skills to gain acceptance of ideas. Influences the external environment through professional and advocacy organizations. · Promotes patient-centered care within Relationship Based Care, addressing clinical, psychological, and spiritual needs. Ensures adherence to Clinical Standards of Performance and uses evidence-based practices to build excellence in patient care. Encourages interdisciplinary partnerships and sets improvement priorities aligned with organizational goals. Manages the department budget responsibly and ensures efficient use of resources. · Sets high performance standards and fosters professional growth through innovative and optimistic inquiry skills. Develops staff expertise with tailored developmental plans. Initiates staff development innovations, supports continuing education and specialty certification. Creates a best practice climate for students and new nurses, recruits nursing students, and supports shared governance using staff feedback to improve care and practice. · The Unit Director leads and develops clinicians, building their leadership and communication skills. They support clinicians in overseeing direct reports, handling difficult conversations, performance reviews, and recruitment. · Assist in ensuring all direct care providers and staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies, addressing and verifying any gaps. BS/BSN required at time of hire and master's degree/MSN required. If BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required. If Master’s degree not in nursing, a BSN is required. If the Master’s degree/MSN is not present at time of hire, must be enrolled in a Master’s or MSN program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment. Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership experience required with relevant clinical experience preferred. The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures. Analytical ability necessary to evaluate staff, address and improve clinical issues and devise solutions to complex problems. Leadership ability to develop staff, establish and maintain standards of performance within a national context for professional nursing practice and comply with administrative requirements. Superior interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to effectively create relationships to support a healing environment with patients, families, staff, physicians and hospital personnel including senior management in both written and verbal communication. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state. · Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) · Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) · Registered Nurse (RN) · Act 33 with renewal · Act 34 with renewal · Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
