POSITION SUMMARY
The Unit Manager implements and maintains nursing unit goals and objectives. The Unit Manager is responsible for the supervision and management of the nursing unit and ensuring compliance with nursing policies and procedures, systems, and processes while adhering to federal, state, and local regulatory
requirements. The Unit Manager coordinates all programs and services under the direction and consultation of the Director of Nursing (DON).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide guidance, supervision, and management oversight to all nursing staff on all shifts.
Ensure compliance with company policies as well as all federal, state, and local regulations.
Effectively collaborate with medical staff and other departments to coordinate all aspects of patient care.
Review clinical records daily and ensure appropriate follow-up; report findings to the DON.
Participate in required daily clinical meetings.
Evaluate clinical outcomes and initiate action plans with direction from the DON/ADON.
Conduct patient rounds daily and as needed; provides immediate feedback to assigned staff.
Participate in provider rounds and ensure provider orders are implemented appropriately.
Review and investigate patient, family, and staff concerns; take action to resolve and prevent reoccurrence.
Conduct compliance audits and provide supervision on nursing unit.
Collaborate with Staff Development Coordinator to develop and implement in-service training programs according to staff performance in order to correct identified educational needs.
Participate in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of quality nursing staff.
Effectively manage turnover in the nursing department.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Oversee nursing unit schedule and staffing needs.
Manage employee performance on assigned nursing unit; complete employee appraisals timely.
Collaborate with Infection Preventionist to ensure adherence to center’s infection prevention and control program.
Ensure nursing unit operates with consideration to budget and cost controls; manage and reduce unnecessary waste and spending when possible.
Performs other duties as necessary for the successful operation of the healthcare center.
PREREQUISITES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
One year of nurse management / leadership experience preferred.
Active, unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse in the state of employment.
Ability to lead diverse team of individuals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to make independent decisions and work without direct supervision.
Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government personnel, and the public.
Must have thorough knowledge of current standards of nursing practice.
Must be knowledgeable of computer systems and applications.
Excellent customer service focus.
