Job Overview:
The Unit Secretary assists the Director of Patient Care and the staff nurses by performing specific clerical functions for assigned areas. These duties include but are not limited to: ensuring a safe environment in aspects of care, equipment and treatment and answering telephones properly and relaying information to the appropriate person.

Meet requirements as defined by applicable Department Equipment Competency Checklist,Answer telephones properly and relays information to appropriate personAssembles and disassembles designated charts appropriatelyAssist nurses by picking up and delivering blood, blood derivatives, specimens, medications and charts as requestedAssists as directed with PI activities such as data collectionDemonstrates competency in Pain Management by reporting patient s pain intensity to staff nurseEnsures a safe environment in aspects of care, equipment and treatmentEnters medical orders in Clinical Information System as per hospital policyIdentifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issuesKeeps medical record complete and in orderMaintain unit supplies at appropriate par levelsMaintains communication with the Bed Controller and cooperates with room assignmentsNotifies appropriate departments of patient expirations and attaches death certificate to medical record for attending MD signatureNotifies nurse upon arrival of an admission and calls attending physician if admission orders are neededDirect admission, ensures all parts of patient records are properly identified by use of patient identification labelParticipates in statusing nurse collected specimens and obtains transmittal slip from the printer to be placed on the specimenDelivers specimens as neededParticipates in unit based patient satisfaction, Hourly rounding, assist patient as needed, water, get assistance, Greeting patients and family on admission,Answer call bells as needed, Patient call backs, Assist in discharge process,Performs environmental rounds on a weekly basis, including patient and non-patient areasPerforms required clerical work relating to the admission, transfer and discharge of a patientPerforms required clerical work relating to the admission, transfer and discharge of a patientRecognizes patients who may be experiencing pain and reports to the RNRecognizes stat and rush Lab results and alerts the Nurse in chargeReviews charts for needed formsCharts TPR, BP for their shift on graphic reports recordsAttaches all diagnostic reports to chartReviews daily medical order sheets for x-ray, dates and enters properly x-ray prep and lab prep via Clinical Information Systems, as necessarySecures needed unit services as directed by Director of Patient Care and/or Assistant Director of Patient CareOther Duties:
