Unit Secretary

Your job is more than a job.

As a Unit Secretary, you’re the heart of patient care as you organize and manage supportive clerical services and communication for your unit. Playing a vital role in ensuring the unit’s smooth operations and exceptional care, in this dynamic position, you coordinate administrative tasks and create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.  

  

Maintaining an efficient, cost effective and organized nursing station, you demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assigned unit tasks and responsibilities for patients with acute care needs. You're the conductor, guiding the flow and rhythm of your unit and serving as a trusted resource for nurses and other members of the care team.

Your Everyday 

Ensures a safe environment for patients and others while performing priority technical procedures safely and legally. 

Transcribes orders and maintains patient charts while fulfilling receptionist and clerical duties. 

Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to improve patient care and ensure orderly unit operation. 

Demonstrates care and concern for customers, adhering to HIPAA guidelines and seeking assistance when needed. 

Utilizes effective interpersonal communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes and perceptions of satisfaction. 

Enters supply rooms on nursing units as required for job functions, refraining from manipulating intravenous fluids. 

Contributes to continuity of patient care by complying with established hospital and departmental policies. 

Maintains documentation consistent with established guidelines to support patient care continuity 

 
The Must-Haves 
 

Minimum:  

 High School Diploma/GED or work experience equivalent  

1 to 3 years of experience as a Secretary or Unit Clerk in healthcare setting required   

Preferred:  

Associate's Degree in Nursing, Medical Science or equivalent
