The department comprises three main areas: Strategic Marketing, Creative Development, and Communications.
Within Strategic Marketing, the University Initiatives Marketing (UIM) team aims to elevate the university’s profile and engage target audiences by providing leadership, strategic oversight, and guidance for high-profile university research and public programs. The team collaborates extensively with stakeholders across The New School community on content creation, creative assets, communications, and strategic planning.
POSITION SUMMARY
The UIM team is seeking a talented student assistant with excellent writing, communication, digital design, and research skills. They must be comfortable with managing data, and learning new software/platforms. This role involves promoting the university’s innovative academic, professional, and institutional profile through public events, programming, and research and creative work from the academic departments and centers, institutes and labs. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented, and creative thinker with a strong interest in innovation, human-centered design, sustainability, social and environmental justice.
This position will report to both the Associate Director, Marketing of Research, Scholarship and Creative Practice, and the Associate Director of Events Marketing and Engagement. It is an ideal opportunity for an individual looking to gain experience in strategic marketing and communications in a fast-paced marketing department.

RESPONSIBILITIES -

Event Calendar & Strategic Content Management Assist in creating event calendar/registration pages and/or revising content modules in pages in the university’s event marketing and management system, Splash. Review event calendar pages and coordinate with event communication contacts on page edits. Create resources pertaining to event marketing for the university’s internal wiki. Assist in creating and managing strategic content calendars for Centers, Institutes, and Special Projects. Identify and distribute appropriate marketing and creative assets needed for Centers and Projects. Identify and tag content for the Research and Creative Practice and Centers sites.


Data & Analysis Maintain the newsletter subscriber list, export and upload contacts and report on audience engagement. Maintain a data dashboard with data from Splash, Jotform, Listrak, Staffbase, Google Analytics. Create custom reports and data presentations with basic interpretation and analysis.
Additional Tasks Research and identify potential external partnership, award, and conference opportunities. Copyedit/proofread various marketing content, communications, and newsletters. Attend meetings and engage with partners across the university as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Hourly rate: $17/hours
Number of weekly hours: 15

This is a Hybrid/Remote position. Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions. Minimum Qualifications: A current New School undergraduate or graduate student. An interest in strategic marketing and determining ways to expand and engage various audiences. A strong interest in events and community engagement. Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills for messaging with students, faculty, staff, alumni, as well as external audiences and partners. Experience with basic web editing and design principles. Basic familiarity with Adobe CC applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere). Experience with office applications (Word, Excel, Google Apps). Detail-oriented and highly organized. A creative and strategic thinker. A collaborative problem-solver. A self-starter who takes ownership of tasks and sees them through to delivery.


Preferred Qualifications: Event management/ticketing platforms such as Splash or Eventbrite. Best practices around data collection and data analysis.
