Job Summary

The senior-level Unmanned Systems Operator III focuses on supporting routine and rapid response of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) inspections throughout the Dominion Energy operating footprint. Additional responsibilities will include conducting sUAS training, consulting, and data processing. This position is based out of Richmond, VA but will entail frequent travel across the Dominion Energy Virginia territory
 

Responsibilities and duties:
 

Operate with a safety mindset at all times. Develop flight plans, check NOTAMS, check weather and coordinate airspace integration with any affected controlling agencies or privately-owned properties. Conduct pre-mission briefs and complete safety risk assessments prior to flight as well as after-action reviews upon post-flight. May be responsible for entire inspection projects having modest and or considerable scope and impact to department or serving business unit. Responsible for company vehicle and high dollar unmanned systems. Maintain strict compliance with all FAA Part 107 sUAS rules and regulations. Execute UAS operations in accordance with Dominion Energy procedures. Solve complex problems and provide a new perspective on existing solutions. Lead and conduct training classes and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Collaborate with coworkers, partners and clients on projects. Serve as the face of the company on the ground, providing superior customer service. Perform minor integration and maintenance on the aircraft.  Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Required: 
 

5+ years of relevant surveying experience  Licensed Surveyor in the state of Virginia  Terrestrial surveying experience  PLS CAD expertise  ALTA/As-built experience   Topographic survey experience;  Highly proficient with various surveying/data gathering technology , demonstrating in-depth knowledge and experience, to include comprehensive knowledge of all practices and procedures;  14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate;  Demonstrated expertise in utilizing sUAS-related post-processing software to include GIS software;  Ability to manipulate precise instrumentation with coordination;  Ability to provide instruction and guidance to others through formal training and day-to-day interactions;  Ability to work independently as well as supportively within a team;  Demonstrated willingness to learn  Current vehicle operational license issued by a state to operate a company vehicle  


Preferred: 
 

Surveying and AutoCAD Experience  Pix4D Mapper Experience   LiDAR  collection and processing experience   Aerial Mapping collection and post processing experience   GPS control experience   Global Mapper experience  Experience working with Pointcloud  Experience working with ESRI  The ideal candidate will have a background in sUAS as well as with other robotic operations (submersibles, ROV’s);  Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating;  Experience on sUAS fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, LiDAR  Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate
 

Preferred Discipline(s): Aviation, Software Development, Robotics
 

Other related disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines listed above.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Required:

14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate;

Valid Driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle.

Preferred:

Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating

Working Conditions Travel 76- 100%Office Work Environment Up to 25%Loud Noise Up to 25%Outdoors 76-100%Other Working Conditions

Will be lifting up to 50 lbs independently;

Work involves walking through brush, heavily wooded areas, and on uneven terrain;

Will be standing for several hours at a time;

Work takes place primarily outside in all weather conditions.
