Upholstery Design Engineer
Chris-Craft is a premium boat manufacturer participating in the luxury goods industry looking for an experienced Upholstery Design Engineer who wants to be part of a great team building a world-class product. Chris-Craft is seeking an Upholstery Design Engineer to research, develop, and implement upholstery and canvas designs for all Chris-Craft products. This role primarily focuses on the engineering phases of product development but extends into development, integration, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will ensure that designs are robust, manufacturing-friendly, and comply with industry and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities + Develop and integrate upholstery and canvas systems using 2D and 3D CAD modeling. + Consult with materials, foam, and component suppliers to resolve design issues and improve production efficiency. + Create accurate material and component specifications for sourcing and manufacturing. + Ensure designs meet cost, labor, performance, and functional requirements. + Work with suppliers to develop new systems and improve quality. + Generate engineering drawings, work instructions, and engineering change notices (ECN). + Load and transfer cut files into CNC nesting programs (SigmaNest, fabric cutter, CNC quilter). + Validate and test designs to meet system performance specifications. + Support manufacturing, customer service, and compliance testing. + Assist in continuous improvement initiatives using warranty and field data analysis. + Develop custom upholstery and canvas designs for customers as needed. + Ensure compliance with industry, domestic, and international regulations. + Participate in manufacturing integration and launch activities. + Travel as needed (minimum 10%). Education + Design engineering or technical degree preferred.
