Department Summary: MITRE's Human Centered and User Experience (UX) Engineering dept is on the hunt for a proactive engineer who can design and develop user experiences to address our sponsor’s unique challenges. We are looking for an innovative problem-solver who can not only comprehend and translate user needs but also act as a bridge between design and engineering, utilizing the latest technologies to deliver the ultimate user experience. Roles & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to: + Provide technical guidance to small multidisciplinary teams, including other UX Developers. + Collaborate closely with human factors engineers, UX designers, researchers, project leaders, and sponsors to create software prototypes using current front-end technologies and best practices. + Advocate for users, ensuring user-centered design principles are consistently applied throughout the software development cycle. + Provide consulting guidance to MITRE teams and sponsors, analyzing software implementation, architecture, and performance. + Lead the design and development of user interfaces for our software and web applications, incorporating user research and usability testing to gather insights into user needs and behaviors. + Develop wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas, while collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and product managers, to ensure our products meet user needs. + Develop and maintain design systems and user interface guidelines. + Mentor early career UX engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Basic Qualifications: + Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. + A minimum of 3 years of experience in UX design or a related role, with a proven track record in designing, developing, and prototyping user interfaces (UIs) using user-centered design principles. + Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, D3, and modern JavaScript Frameworks such as Angular, Vue, React, and/or similar libraries. + Proficiency in utilizing wireframe design software such as Adobe XD, Sketch, and/or Figma. + Experience with user research methods and usability testing. + Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication abilities. + A git repository or portfolio showcasing your UX design work, demonstrating your creativity and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications: + An advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, HCI, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
