About UTeach Outreach
UTeach Outreach serves as one of the University’s largest outreach initiatives. We strive to inspire students to take an active interest in STEM, while increasing access for students to pursue and succeed in STEM-focused college majors and careers. This is accomplished through a variety of initiatives: university service-learning courses, K-12 summer camps, student internships, pre-service and in-service teacher development, school-day and after-school programming, STEM competitions, and participation in numerous community events.
Purpose of the position:
This position supports the overall mission of UTeach Outreach, including developing curriculum for and assisting with the implementation of UT PREP and other K-12 summer STEM camps, university-based service-learning courses, and various community events.
Responsibilities:
Inquiry-based STEM curriculum. Develop, update, and adapt existing curriculum to ensure alignment with learning objectives and best practices in STEM education; work collaboratively with instructors and leadership to incorporate feedback and make continuous improvements; support community event programmingInstructional Support. Provide curriculum-based support to instructional staff, including resources, guidance, and professional development; conduct observations and provide feedback; manage Canvas curriculum; anticipate instructional needs in advance and communicate with leadershipCourse materials and space. Manage existing inventory systems; order, distribute, and store materials; serve as secondary purchaser and provide ordering support during times of high peak workload; ensure proper purchasing and receiving procedures are followed; manage department procard; reserve university space; support workflow across teams and departmentsLab/classroom safety officer. Ensure safety across all labs/classrooms used by UTeach Outreach summer camps, ensure lab equipment is in working order and replace broken equipment, train instructional teams on proper use of equipment, lead trainings on safety proceduresEvent planning and support. Support Camp Director and other UTeach Outreach leadership in developing and enacting engagement opportunities for students, families, interns, and staff.Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in a STEM or related field5 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 3 years in K-12 or higher education setting Experience creating or implementing inquiry-based curriculum at the K-12 levelExperience with laboratory and chemical safetyStrong project management, communication, analytical, and writing skills with attention to detailAbility to work well independently and collaboratively within a team environmentProven ability to maintain punctual, dependable hours on a regular basis and provide superior customer serviceHigh degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office suitePreferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree from an accredited university or college in a STEM or related fieldPreviously worked in Title 1 school(s)Experience in laboratory material and equipment management or lab supervisory work Experience working in biology or chemistry labsExperience with supply management, including purchasing and/or inventory systemsKnowledge of UT Austin systems and procedures, including experience with ordering, purchasing, inventory, room reservations and WorkdayNote: equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Salary Range$62,000 + depending on qualifications
