Utilities Project Engineer
Job Title: Utilities Project Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Utilities Project Engineer to assist with a Cooperative's Long Range Engineering Plan and Two-Year Work Plan. The ideal candidate will work closely with various engineering and operations managers to ensure the efficient and reliable delivery of electrical services. This role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions. Responsibilities + Assist with the Cooperative's Long Range Engineering Plan and Two-Year Work Plan by communicating with consultants and management. + Collaborate with the Assistant Manager of Engineering, Manager of Engineering, and Manager of Operations on engineering projects. + Maintain records on primary underground cable faults and assist in decision-making for cable replacement. + Implement sectionalizing, over current protection, device coordination, over voltage protection, voltage improvement, power factor correction, load balancing, and system reliability. + Review staking sheets from the field before construction. + Ensure power systems for subdivisions and large commercial customers are well-designed and adhere to good engineering practices and R.U.S. specifications. + Obtain estimates from consultants, contractors, and vendors for needed services or assistance. + Assist in developing specifications, evaluating quotes, and making recommendations for purchasing electrical equipment and materials. + Plan and implement alternate feed arrangements and switching operations for voltage conversion, planned maintenance, and power restoration. + Work with the inspections department to ensure sound construction practices and proper reporting. + Collaborate on major system projects to improve electrical system reliability. + Gather information for electrical system studies to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety. + Supervise personnel as required. + Follow personnel and safety policies, procedures, and regulations. + Maintain a high degree of discretion and emotional control during periods of extreme stress while collaborating with diverse individuals. + Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. + Perform any other duties as assigned by management. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited curriculum. + Five years of electric utility engineering experience with some supervisory experience is preferred. + Professional Engineer (PE) License. + Proficiency with substation maintenance, transmission, substation design, stamp drawing, SCADA, project management, electrical engineering, design, and project engineering. + Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written). + Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions. + Valid Texas driver’s license and a good driving record. + Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Apps (e.g., Word, Excel, Teams). + Experience with troubleshooting, protection & control, ERCOT, and reliability standards. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $69.00 - $75.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
