JOB SUMMARY
The Utilities Superintendent has overall responsibility for the Central Utilities that supply energy and utilities for the mill in a safe, productive, and cost efficient manner. In the Forney, TX mill this includes the gas-fired package boiler, the wood/gas-fired power boiler and associated 3.8 MW steam turbine, the gas-fired 4.5 MW CHP (cogen) system, the anaerobic water treatment plant, and all compressed air systems.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Review of safety, production and quality results on a daily basis
• Managing production resources and interface with other departments to maintain efficient operations
• Participation in the daily production meeting. Reporting on safety, quality, productivity, and environmental concerns
• Working with superintendents and managers to develop annual goals with emphasis on safety, environment, quality, production, and cost
• Supporting the continual personal and professional development of department members
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and at least eight (8) years of experience in a mill facility. Experience will suffice in lieu of a bachelor’s degree
• Significant experience with power and central utility area operations
• General understanding of mill-wide operations and interdependency
• Understands the Smurfit Westrock Quality Policy and Environmental Policy
• Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization
• Must be able to clearly define objectives and be effective in involving others in the achievement of those objectives
• Must be dedicated to continuous improvement in all backend areas of the mill, but with special emphasis on safety, quality, environment, production, and cost
• Safety experience including OSHA, State, and local laws/regulations, and experience with Safety Programs and Training
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
To successfully perform the essential functions of this role it requires the ability to: stand occasionally, walk frequently, frequent use of hands (reach with hands and arms), view computer monitor, use telephone, speak and listen frequently.
