Job Summary
The Utilities Superintendent is responsible for accountable for the supply of industrial services for the plant (refrigeration / Boiler operation / hot / cold water supplies for the facility), ensuring a safe, efficient, and reliable operation / maintenance of the equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and oversee all utilities for the facility (Ammonia Refrigeration, gas fired boilers for steam generation, compressed air, cold / 140 / 180 water for the facility)Compliance with all federal, state, local and internal requirements from design through operation and maintenance of the plant. Ensure employees are aware of the requirements and their responsibilityOversee facility PSM Program and collaborate with corporate engineering to ensure best practices are always being followed.Ensure utilities maintenance activities are and work orders are completed in a timely manner, create and maintain records and reports as required by PSM / Company / or regulatory requirementsWork closely with cross functional teams (Ops / QA / Engineering) to ensure facility needs are being met (temps / air flows / utilities etc)Maintain all utility departments equipment and ensure equipment is performing to high standards and in a safe manner at all timesProvide technical guidance, direction, and develop specs for the utilities team (supervisors / techs / operators)Ensure proper training for all refrigeration personnel ie: operator training / psm training, boiler personnel ie: boiler operator training / RMP training.Maintain a team that is cross-functional and trained in different areas of utilities to ensure crewing changes do not impact the facilityEstablish and implement preventative maintenance programs and procedures for the utilities deptRequisition tools / equipment and supplies as needed (ensure critical spares are in stock at all times)Promote and drive succession development with areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Diploma or GED.

5 years of experience managing utilities (Ammonia Refrigeration / Steam Boilers)

Demonstrated leadership experience supervising, planning, and scheduling a maintenance crew.

Read, write, and orally communicate in English and ability to work with no or little supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with large scale refrigeration systems

Prior management experience in a beef/meat facility. 

Licensing/certifications for ammonia/boiler operations.

PSM/RMP trained and experienced.

Bilingual English / Spanish

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems.  

Working knowledge of air compressors.

Working knowledge of steam generation (gas fired boilers).

Working knowledge of water pump systems.

Theoretical knowledge of PSM standards.

Strong knowledge and troubleshooting of overhead conveying systems, conveyors, HVAC, hydraulics, compressed air systems, electrical systems, and equipment utilized in food processing. 

Ability to communicate well (verbal and written) with all levels of employees from hourly to upper management.

Ability to identify and address safety hazards; promote safety on a daily basis.

Ability to lead by example, encourage teamwork and learning, and motivate the hourly workforce.

Must have a high math and mechanical aptitude; be assertive; and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Summary

America's Heartland Packing is set to open its doors in early 2025. The 775,000 sq. ft. greenfield project will include a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.
