HDR is looking for a Utility Coordinator to join our Transportation Business Group in Charleston or Columbia, SC. This individual will help support a $2B transportation improvement project in South Carolina, and must be experienced in the process of coordinating utilities in relation to transportation project design and applicable utility agreement documentation. They will support the client, project managers, and task/discipline leads on a daily basis.
In the role of Utility Coordinator I, we'll count on you to:
Assist with the identification, communication, and resolution of utility conflicts on Transportation/Roadway projects.Communicate and coordinate with utility companies and the project team specific to the design process and schedule and per standard client practices and requirementsDevelop and maintain accurate records of utility coordination efforts and delivery and receipt of documentation, including routine updates for the client and project teamDevelop and coordinate utility agreements and memoranda of agreements between utility companies and the client as applicable to the project designCoordinate with utility companies to obtain, review, and maintain utility-specific documentation (ie prior rights, as-builts, encroachment permits, betterments, no-cost letters, standards and specifications, etc.)Develop, maintain, and update utility-specific cost estimates applicable to the project design to inform utility documentation and the project teamSupport the project team with documentation and maintenance of records specific to utility costs and applicable reimbursements from utility companiesReview utility design plans for compliance with applicable utility company requirements, contract requirements, and utility agreements per the Project Management Information SystemReview project design plans for utility conflicts and evaluation of feasible alternatives for mitigationPrepare and update utility reports and applicable data specific to proposed project designSupport the development and assist in the maintenance of project dashboards specific to utilities, documentation, and coordination effortPrepare specifications and contract documentsPerform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and proceduresMake decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as neededParticipate in project coordination meetingsFunction as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not the sole focus of this positionProduce and/or oversee the development of utility plans, specifications, and estimates and support the development of other discipline design plans specific to utility relocations and conflictDevelop and review schedules and provide support for schedule updatePerform other duties as neededPreferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degreeA minimum of 2 years related experienceAbility to read and understand contractual documents, including but not limited to; deeds, engineering plans, sub-contractor proposals, reimbursement agreements, occupancy and use agreements, etc.Basic understanding of real estate principles and the ability to read and understand easements, deeds, legal descriptions and general documents associated with property rightsFamiliarity of Transportation/Roadway/Utility IndustryPreference given to local candidates#LI-HO1Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experienceProficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and OutlookAbility to read and understand civil transportation engineering design plansAbility to read and understand utility installation and adjustment plansPosition requires strong communication, both verbal and written, organization skills, attention to detail, scheduling and problem-solving skillsAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a mustWhat We Believe
