Essential Functions + Performs skilled manual labor work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of wastewater utilities treatment plants and IQ water distribution systems, including a variety of manual labor tasks. + Performs various tasks involving water utilities maintenance projects; locates and marks underground utility lines; locates existing utilities from blueprints; gravity systems, and service connections; cleans and views lift stations, sanitary gravity lines, force mains, and service lines; views tapes of wastewater system for acceptance; operates camera to locate service connections, breaks, and bores in sewer pipes; vacuums debris from manholes and stations; monitors and pumps down high-level stations; cuts sewer lines using chop saw; repairs sewer lines; repairs and installs gravity lines; performs grouting of service/gravity lines; cleans blockages, lateral lines, and excavation areas; rebuilds pumps; installs, repairs, or replaces valves; disassembles, cleans, inspects, and maintains equipment; replaces light bulbs; cleans/maintains trucks and drains debris tanks on trucks. + Develops and maintains County odor control program to neutralize offensive/noxious gases generating from sewage collection system; reviews design data and specifications of existing and proposed odor control units; conducts field studies to identify areas in need of odor control units or replacement/rehabilitation of existing units; monitors and records test unit data; maintains and paints pumps, motors, pipes, and hydrants; assists with cleaning of degasifiers/reactors and sludge systems; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; assembles and repairs backflow devices; assembles bacteriological sample stations; conducts cross-connection control inspections of customers; repairs or replaces sustaining, regulation, and pressure reducing valves. + Performs in field testing of water samples; installs or replaces water mains, fire hydrants, sample stations, valves, air release valves and flushing stations; responds to customer calls for service; repairs and replaces water services; replaces saddles; replaces sidewalks, roads, and driveways; tracks all assignments in maintenance management software. + Maintains buildings, machinery, and pipes at water plants and outlying stations; troubleshoots routine electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and other plant problems; performs pigging/swabbing at wellfields and flushes the system; repairs, maintains, calibrates, and tests equipment; performs wellfield drawdowns; resets telemetry systems; removes and replaces high service well and chemical pumps; removes and replaces motors; performs pigging/swabbing of raw mains. + Performs valve maintenance activities; operates vacuum truck mechanisms to clean valves; maintains and catalogs blueprints; responds to main breaks to develop and initiate isolation plans; raises/lowers valve boxes; and replaces damaged, defective, or outdated valves. + Completes the mapping of water valves within the system; utilizes global positioning system to collect and maintain data; performs annual compliance on valves and hydrants; locates, identifies, and documents placement of valves in the system; and coordinates tagging of valves on roadways. + Responds to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for on-call duty; repairs main/service breaks; evaluates service calls, determines amount of water loss, and determines needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials; determines need to request location of utility services; flushes systems after repairs; requests bacteria samples from laboratory. + Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. + Communicates with supervisor, employees, other Divisions, contractors, utility companies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Minimum Qualifications + High school diploma or GED* required. + One (1) year of related experience. + Fingerprinting required. + Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805. + Must possess and maintain a Wastewater Collections C Certification within two (2) years of hire. *General Educational Development (GEDs) must be issued by the American Council on Education through an approved GED Administrator. For Florida the approved GED Administrator would be the Florida Department of Education (public schools or adult education centers). Supplemental information + Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications. + Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency.
