Essential Functions • Performs skilled labor work in the construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Wastewater Treatment Plants, including a variety of manual labor tasks. • Performs corrective and preventative maintenance on plant equipment and processes including sand filters, grit systems, bar screens, irrigation systems, lift stations, and various pumps, blowers, and motors; maintains facility Odor control units, including meter calibration, chemical cleaning of units, and all associated maintenance and repairs; maintains facility grounds to include trash removal, pressure washing, and painting of all facility structures, processes, and equipment. • Coordinates valve maintenance activities; raises/lowers valve boxes; and replaces damaged, defective, or outdated valves. • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors the work environment to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals. • Prepares, completes, and/or receives various forms, reports, correspondence, checklists, work orders, valve isolation forms, valve maintenance forms, data recorder sheets, pump activity reports, lift station sheets, maintenance reports, charts, timecards, leave requests, calibration logs or other documents. • Communicates with supervisor, employees, other divisions, contractors, utility companies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. • Other duties as assigned for upkeep, maintenance, or repairs of the Wastewater Treatment Facility. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: + No supervisory responsibility for this position. + Working Conditions + Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. + Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. + Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature, and noise extremes, fumes, hazardous materials, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances. Minimum Qualifications • High school diploma or GED* required. • One (1) year of related experience. • Fingerprinting Required. • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805. • Prefer a candidate with the knowledge of or ability to learn the operation of heavy equipment; ability to assess and troubleshoot problems and critical thinking to find solutions.
