ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS + Utilizes basic hand tools such as shovels, rakes, picks, axes, squeegees, brooms, tamps, grass whips, sledge hammers, spud bars, hammers, hand saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, loppers, bolt cutters, lutes, utility knives, edgers, sprayers etc., to dig holes, trenches, foundations, conduit runs, to perform basic landscaping tasks, to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks. + Utilizes a variety of power equipment including, but not limited to, air hammers, air tamps, air compressors, electric drills, rock drills, water pumps, chainsaws, portable concrete saws, cement mixers, sidewalk sweepers, lawn mowers, snow blowers, brush cutters, wood chippers, sprayers, augers, compost mixers, sod cutters, trash pumps, vehicle weight scales, hydraulic boom, hot box, tar kettle, forklifts, tractors with and without trailers or attachments, weed eaters, leaf blowers, lowering devices, floor buffers, edgers, hoists, grease guns, steam cleaners, high pressure water hoses, grinders to perform cleaning, maintenance and repair on buildings, grounds, simple equipment, and City of Toledo property such as streets, alleys, right of ways, trees, lawns, sprinkler systems, concrete and wooden structures, culverts and catch basins, traffic control signs and devices, and cemetery plots and markers. + Assists in concrete, asphalt, or grading operations and other maintenance and repair operations. + Spreads salt, screening, or other abrasives on slippery areas of streets and sidewalks. + Operates various vehicular equipment to load, unload, pick-up or deliver supplies and materials. + Assists in receiving and storing of supplies and materials and assists in conducting physical inventories of same. + Operates a variety of light equipment including, but not limited to, trucks, jeeps, tractors, step vans, stake trucks. + Performs cleaning and preventive maintenance and makes minor adjustments and minor repairs to tools, light equipment and buildings and grounds; pumps gas, checks oil, and greases and lubes equipment. + Sets up barricades and posts temporary and/or permanent signs for traffic control. + Picks up dead animals. + Stops, diverts, or directs traffic. + Mixes seeds, fertilizer, insecticides and other chemicals. + Provides routine information to the public as required. + Maintains simple records, and prepares mileage log sheets and/or work orders as required. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS + Eighth (8th) grade reading level supplemented by experience or training in the use of basic hand tools and one (1) year of work experience which demonstrates the ability to follow directions and to work effectively with others. + Must be able to properly lift objects weighing up to approximately ninety (90) lbs. Must possess a valid driver's license. + Position assignment may require the possession of a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) appropriate for the assignment. + Position assignment may require the ability to wear respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
