UVA Acts Ensemble Members will collaborate with other Ensemble Members and the Artistic Director of UVA Acts to devise, rehearse, and perform UVA Acts programming, primarily on UVA Grounds. Ensemble Members will perform as actors throughout the year. We are looking for an energetic, joyful, and diverse ensemble committed to our mission of equitable and vibrant working and learning spaces at UVA. Performers of all ethnic & racial identities, gender identities, ages above 17, as well as performers with disabilities, are highly encouraged to submit. Ensemble Members with a variety of performance experiences are encouraged to apply. A strong commitment to equitable and inclusive collaboration processes is required.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and applicants will be interviewed and hired on a program-by-program basis as programs develop throughout the year.
About UVA Acts
Through performance and dialogue, UVA Acts promotes preventative strategies that foster equitable, vibrant spaces for working and learning at the University of Virginia. Our vision is for faculty members to employ strategies, utilize vocabulary, and extend conversations from UVA Acts programming in the context of their own departments and classrooms. UVA Acts programming pulls on practices from Theatre of the Oppressed, Theatre in Education, Theatre for Dialogue, improvisation, and ensemble-based devising.
Time Commitment
Flexible rehearsal schedules will include 0-6 hours of rehearsal per week for 3-5 months. Performance schedules will vary, typically 1-3 performances per month (2-3 hours per performance), with less flexible scheduling. Performers are expected to commit to the performing at least 3 times per semester. Rehearsal periods will take place throughout the year, with less activity Dec-Jan & June-July.
Interview Preparation
If selected for an in-person interview/audition, candidates will be asked to improvise and perform collaboratively with a group of actors. In preparation for the interview portion, candidates are also requested to learn about the core values of UVA Acts and consider how these values relate to their work and practice. Additional information will be provided as needed.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Experience performing (theater, film, music, dance, public speaker, etc.)
Commitment to equitable and inclusive collaboration processes
Flexible daytime schedule and ability to commit to program for 14 months
Preferred Qualifications
Background in devised performance (including but not limited to movement-based, text-based, ensemble-based techniques)
Performance experience in improvisation
Experience in conversations around issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion
