Position Overview
This position will provide comprehensive test engineering support to the Proterra Customer Engineering Validation Team. You will be responsible for performing characterization, validation, and safety tests on new electric vehicle technologies. This position will serve as the face of the company, maintaining the highest level of safety at all required locations and be the primary Validation Engineer on the execution of test activities supporting Proterra.
About the Role – You will:
Support Validation Engineering with instrumentation installation and verification on vehicles and systems. Support onsite and offsite testing as required including but not limited to durability testing, chamber testing and partner program validation activities. Provide hands on involvement and ownership of all activities within the execution of work responsibilities. Develop engineering validation and characterization plans for Proterra’s electric vehicle technologies. Provide clear and concise documentation related to testing. Facilitate vehicle level testing to validate Proterra battery packs into customer platforms. Develop DVP&Rs and implement the appropriate test methods and equipment to execute. Provide clear and concise documentation related to tests, including reports on parts under test and their status. Capture identified failures in detail and work with engineering to facilitate resolution. Troubleshoot and debug issues with test equipment. Prioritize and complete tasks to meet deadlines. Interact with a wide variety of individuals and teams to communicate results. Other tasks as assigned by managementAbout Our Group:
The Validation Team is part of the Customer Engineering organization and works closely with the Integration and Launch Engineering Teams. The Customer Engineering Team is the direct interface to the customer, representing other Proterra internal development groups from a technical perspective. You will report to the Validation Engineering Manager and collaborate with other engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facility in Greer, SC. This will be a remote hybrid position with a combination of work time spent at a local test track, battery plant in Greer and work from home.About You:

Bachelor’s Degree in related Engineering fields or equivalent relevant experience 2+ years of testing experience in the automotive or transportation industries. Understanding of high voltage storage systems. Experience with digital and analog interfaces for PCs, test systems, etc. Familiarity with the high voltage products and automotive CAN communication networks. Experience in an R&D testing environment. Experience with completing tests and resolving problems in an unattended manner.Preferred qualifications:
Experience with P-CAN explorer or Canalyzer Experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition systems such as Dewesoft (i.e., temperature, flow, pressure, current, voltage) Experience in electrical and electronic circuit components. HV safety trainingPhysical Demands:
May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations. Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds. Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces. Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items. Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.Environmental Demands:
Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions. Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment. Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etcTravel: 10-20%
