Value Chain Designer

Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. **Job Summary** : As part of Global Product Group team, this role needs to do end-to-end value chain transformation projects, in very close collaboration with cross-functional-team, and drive execution with change management. This Value Chain Designer role will primarily focus on logistics optimization, thus creating the foundation for direct shipping of China sourced components to global customers. Significant opportunity identified to expand the full potential of value chain optimization in future by sourcing shipping level finished components and directly shipping those components to global customer. The focus will be to optimize handling/storage/preservation throughout the value chain. Also will drive built-in-quality, flexibility and agility (velocity) and Efficiency (cost) improvements up in the chain, thus ensuring improved quality and delivery experiences to the end Customer. **Role Definition** Designs and implements new process or updates to existing processes to improve end to end value chain performance. Develop a network value-stream model that depicts current state value chain network and may compare to alternate network configurations (future state). This will be primarily Value Chain Merge in Transit project lead role for HMS, who will drive expansion of merge in transit components to optimize HMS value chain in future. **Responsibilities** • Analyzing the inbound, value add and outbound value chains to identify opportunities for improvement. • Developing business cases and capability studies, recommending improvements to stakeholders. • Implementing new and enhanced processes and tools and governing changes through collaboration across multiple workstreams to ensure alignment. • Identifying process inefficiencies and wastes of time, money, materials, and energy. **Skill Descriptors** **Business Process Design** : Knowledge of business process design; ability to develop appropriate techniques to re-examine key processes and focus on optimizing organizational performance. Level Working Knowledge: • Carries out business process design tasks with some supervision and coaching. • Uses a variety of business process design tools and techniques. • Examines, interprets, and explains work-flow materials and documentation. • Documents common obstacles and barriers for effective implementation. • Analyzes a process and associated business logic and offers recommendations based on analysis. **Effective Communications** : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Level Extensive Experience: • Reviews others' writing or presentations and provides feedback and coaching. • Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience. • Demonstrates both empathy and assertiveness when communicating a need or defending a position. • Communicates well downward, upward, and outward. • Employs appropriate methods of persuasion when soliciting agreement. • Maintains focus on the topic at hand. **Process Mapping/Flowcharting** : Knowledge of the concepts of process mapping; ability to carry out the documentation of current and proposed manufacturing processes to identify and make improvements. Level Extensive Experience: • Uses a wide variety of process mapping tools and techniques. • Creates maps for processes that involve multiple people and departments. • Selects the appropriate type of map for the manufacturing process. • Defines the process boundaries; lists and sequences steps. • Guides on the application of ovals, boxes, diamonds, and arrows, as needed. • Provides solutions to redundancies and gaps in processes. **Root Cause Analysis (RCA)** : Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences. Level Extensive Experience: • Investigates a broad range of problems, determines causes, and finds resolutions. • Recommends candidates for root cause analysis in spite of chaotic organizational conditions. • Develops corrective action based on RCA results. • Uses RCA techniques such as Re-enactment, Comparative Re-enactment, Re-construction. • Guides others to recognize repeat situations even when they are distributed over time or happen to different people. • Works with a variety of RCA approaches such as safety-based, production-based, process-based, failure-based, and systems-based. **Posting Dates:** December 23, 2024 - January 3, 2025 Caterpillar is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EEO).
