Value Stream Supervisor
Responsible for leading the operation of one or more plant Value Streams. Ensures a safe work environment, drives quality improvements, develops a qualified workforce, reduces operating costs, inventories and lead times through continuous improvements. Directly supervises and reports the activities of various direct labor functions. Oversees day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and annual expectations.

Our Facility in Coxsackie, NY manufactures large, complex contoured structural components and assemblies for aerospace and other applications. Our integrated processes include stretch-forming, thermal-forming, chemical processing, precision fabrication, machining, finishing processes, and integration of components into subassemblies.
Job Summary
· Accountable for maintaining the assigned Value Stream by meeting safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity goals.
· Aligns shift schedules to include work station assignments/rotations, employee vacations, employee breaks, training/coaching production line employees and overtime assignments, in order to meet internal and external customer demands.
· Creates the basis for continuous improvement and employee empowerment by ensuring that standardized work and processes are followed, needed adjustments are implemented and the area is compliant.
· Drives KPI metrics within the assigned Value Stream by utilizing direct report resources. Collaborates with cross-functional departments to generate and prioritize projects in order to meet specified metrics.
· Coordinates production resources required to support production plan requirements.
· Ensures accurate inventory levels by supporting cycle counts, Kanbans and effective data management within the Baan ERP system.
· Coordinates and assists Value Stream Manufacturing Engineers in the assimilation of new products into manufacturing in a timely manner.
· Drives and prioritizes improvement and quality related projects with the Value Stream Manufacturing Engineers.
· Ensures direct reports are trained and follow standards, written documentation, safety practices and related corporate regulatory requirements.
· Reports and acts on production variances to standards.
· Participates on project teams and completes special projects as assigned.
· Leads Kaizen events and maintains ownership of follow-up activities.
· Ensures quality standards are met per established procedures and specifications.
· Responsible for recommending and applying lean manufacturing concepts and measuring performance and progress resulting from implementation of associated processes.
· Ensure that proper safety requirements, PPE, procedures and 6S methods are utilized and maintained within the Value Stream(s) through the use of EHS and OSHA standards. Conducts work in a manner that protects the environment and maintains a safe workplace.
· Participates in the hiring, training and supervising of personnel involved in various production activities. Responsibilities include interviewing, planning, assigning, and directing work and assessing performance.
· Maintains time and attendance records.
· Works with the Value Stream Manager to develop and implement annual training plans.
· Coach and mentor employees as required.
· Participate in administration of disciplinary actions.
· Track employee performance over the evaluation period in order to provide substantive input into the annual evaluation documentation.
· Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
· Act as the VSM in the event he/she is absent for the day or on vacation etc.
· Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
· Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.
· Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
· Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions
· Working conditions are: 80% manufacturing environment / 20% office environment.
· Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts.
· Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles in designated areas
· Exposure to noise, heat and hazardous substances.
· Hearing protection is required in designated areas.
· Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
· Fully enclosed shoes of solid, leather construction with a steel or composite toe cap (ANSI Z41 compliant) must be worn in all manufacturing areas, including the Shipping / Receiving areas.
Required Skills & Qualifications
· Three to five years’ management or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required. Value stream experience preferred.
· Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
· Good organizational, communication, and problem solving skills.
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing activities.
· Must possess strong interpersonal stills and be able to interface within cross-functional teams.
· Demonstrated teamwork and teambuilding skills. Ability to assess and develop individual and team skills and capabilities.
· Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for challenges. Serve as a model by promoting safety, new ideas and positive change.
· Ability to read and understand specifications and interpret drawings.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
· Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
· Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit; occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
· Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. · Must be able to communicate effectively.
· Annual baseline hearing test is required.
· Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Required Experience and Education
· Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
· Three to five years’ management or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required. Value stream experience preferred.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required.
