This includes greeting and assisting patients, preparing and maintaining examination rooms, assisting in test scheduling and interacting with hospital staff to promote appropriate use of the laboratory services.
II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs non-invasive, peripheral vascular examinations efficiently and accurately following all laboratory protocols, including:
1.a. Plethysmographic studies of the peripheral arterial system. Must determine correct placement of the pneumatic cuffs to obtain accurate measurements and obtain Doppler waveforms using continuous wave Doppler. Must also perform exercise testing when necessary.
1.b. High resolution vascular duplex ultrasound exams, which include utilization and optimization of grayscale, pulse wave, and color Doppler images. Must be able to identify all anatomic structures without direct supervision, and determine the absence, presence, and extent of disease. Must be able to determine areas of interest and document images according to laboratory protocols for the reading physician and the permanent medical record.
2. Modifies standard protocols as necessary, only under adverse conditions, and documents limitations on the patient’s written report.
3. Generates preliminary reports in PACS system for formal physician interpretation. Reviews results to determine if it is necessary to notify referring physician based on the Critical Results policy of the lab.
4. Records and bills for all Vascular Laboratory procedures performed; ensures all pertinent information is appropriately filed for patient records.

2. 1-2 years of vascular experience.
3. Must keep current with CME requirements for maintaining credential and laboratory accreditation.
B) SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Ability to effectively operate laboratory equipment, including but not limited to ultrasound machines, phlethysmography equipment, and treadmill.
2. Ability to use independent judgement to acquire the optimum diagnostic information in each examination performed.
3. Ability to evaluate diagnostic information in order to communicate this information to the ordering physician or health care team.
4. Ability to follow established hospital and departmental procedures and policies
5. Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members, physician, nurses, students, and other members of the organization.
6. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

8. Ability to interact with patients of all kinds
9. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of patients from every age group (0+) and to provide care appropriately.
10. Ability to maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning and practice proper ergonomics to maintain good physical health.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Work in a hospital based laboratory with frequent contact with both inpatients and outpatients.
2. Some exposure to infectious diseases. Actual incidence of infection is low if infection control guidelines are followed.
3. Portable examinations will be performed when required.
4. Strength sufficient to assist with lifting patients, moving heavy equipment and moving patients in wheelchairs and stretchers.
V. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
