Major Responsibilities:
Responsible for obtaining and recording accurate quality echocardiography scans and vascular studies of the heart. 1)Echocardiography: a. Prioritizes echo requests, able to organize workload independently. b. Obtains work assignments from computer or supervisor. c. Performs echocardiography studies including evaluating cardiac structures and identifying abnormalities as ordered by the physician for diagnosing heart ailments. d. Consults with cardiologist on echo studies discussing any questions in regard to each patient’s study as required. e. Prepares studies for physician interpretation. f. Responds to physician’s questions relating to patients, scans and digital imaging as required. g. Provides psychological support to patients by answering questions and explaining the testing process as needed. h. Provides necessary patient/family education. i. Processes echo studies in accordance with established departmental standards. Adheres to applicable clinic policies, all applicable state, federal and governing agency guidelines. 2)Vascular Studies: a. Assesses arterial circulation by using pulse doppler, duplex, imaging & segmental blood pressures. b. Analyzes & demonstrates hemodynamics of the carotid arteries & documents strictly per criteria and protocol. c. Recognizes and is able to demonstrate to physicians normal structures, pathology of venous & arterial systems of the abdomen. d. Accurately demonstrates pseudo aneurysms of the groin, locates the area, correctly measures & documents with doppler according to criteria & protocol. e. Assesses & accurately demonstrates for the interpreting physician hemodynamics of native arteries, surgical arterial grafts, & arterial/venous fistulas for dialysis purposes. f. Physically map out the vein saphenous or superficial system by drawing on patients leg including all tributaries & vein diameters for the purpose of surgical harvesting. g. Accurately recognizes and demonstrates deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities using all aspects of established criteria for doctor’s interpretation. h. Adheres to applicable department protocol, clinic policies, and all applicable state, federal and governing agency guidelines.Maintenance of departmental logs, equipment, records and exam rooms. 1)Maintains cleanliness of equipment and exam room and reading station. 2)Cleans portable and stationary equipment on an as needed basis or daily. 3)Changes paper in testing rooms after each exam. 4)Maintains proper functioning of echo/vascular ultrasound equipment and reading station systems to ensure availability of material resources.Able to perform other routine department diagnostic procedures as cross trained. 1)Capable of performing EKG’s.Responsible for assisting staff in office related duties, (answering phones, entering messages into Epic and rooming pt’s.) 1)Maintains customer focused behavior.Participation in departmental goal implementation and self development activities. 3)Participate in completion of unit tasks as delegated by manager or designee. 4)Participate in appropriate inservices continuing education programs and/or workshops to maintain current technological knowledge base. 1)Attend unit meetings and participate in goal planning. 2)Participate in departmental activities.Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, andMedical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, andVascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, orVascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, orVascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, andCardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 18 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, orCardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) needs to be obtained within 18 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, andBasic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
