The Role
The VPT chair will provide direct support to the Total Vehicle performance director. Primary job responsibilities:
Owning a weekly VPT meeting: Bringing appropriate topics for VPT review / decision. The VPT chair must have a pulse on what is going on with all of the program teams and know what topics need to be brought in for escalation or decision. In addition to knowing what needs discussion, the VPT chair is also responsible for the facilitation aspect of scheduling, coordinating, running the VPT meeting, taking action items, ensuring follow up, etc.
Owning the knothole ride schedule and ensuring flawless knothole execution. Again there are 2 aspects. the VPT chair not only coordinates the knothole rides / ensures the vehicles are ready and prepped & all participants have a clear understanding of what is being evaluated and why, but also needs to have a pulse on the VDP timing of all programs to know what rides should be scheduled when.
Manage team budget, travel approval process, staff meeting facilitation
Managing a large organization invariably results in a lot of unplanned issues. The VPT chair is expected to be the point contact of support to manage “problems of the day” and will leverage their network to quickly resolve facilities issues, last minute executive requests, etc.
What You’ll Do
Support the VPT org in its entirety
Provide structure, organization & efficiency to everyday operations for the VPT, including managing weekly VPT decision & escalation meeting
Forecast & Manage teams travel and budget
Work with Competitive Intelligence, SMT, VDDV & Vehicle Performance teams to forecast & manage competitive purchases & fleet operations, including prioritizing benchmark testing
Manage VPT meeting topic schedule, templates & running efficiency, incl. Chassis Tuning Reviews
Manage VPT Staff meeting topic schedule & running efficiency
Lead, Organize & Execute high level executive ride events, including Knothole
Keeps Manager and team informed of assignment status, timing, and technical issues
Additional Job DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics
5+ years of engineering experience in a related field
Experience in Vehicle Performance
Possesses a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization, specifically upper management, to achieve mutual goals
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking skills with minimal input from management
Champions the resolution of tough issues without being asked
Ability to organize, lead the Performance Integration Team and negotiate with engineers that have conflicting requirements to find the win/win solutions
Proficient with the Global Vehicle Development Process
Drive to ensure high quality, on time completion of tasks
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience in the vehicle performance center
Experience in design and release engineering
Ability to organize issues, interpret strategies and effectively communicate to team members and management to facilitate timely decisions
Demonstrated ability to identify issues early and drive timely resolution
DFSS Green Belt Certified
