Vehicle Test Engineer

We are seeking a Functional Vehicle Test Engineer with preferred post-college experience or translatable work experiences (Internships) within the automotive industry. The ideal candidate will know diesel engine combustion, after treatment, transmission, and control systems.

Responsibilities include communicating directions, submitting work orders, and working within a Union environment. You will log data, analyze system configuration, and validate performance requirements for engine systems of On-Highway trucks. Troubleshoot system-level performance failures, perform root cause failure analysis to prevent potential failures, and identify areas for system performance improvements. Preferred experience with Vector CANape & CANalyzer or INCA & MATLAB, leveraging data analysis tools, diagnostics, and calibration data using Vector Products (CANape). Strong report writing skills are necessary for documenting daily test activities and issue escalation. Generate performance graphs, histograms, identify data abnormalities, review validation results, write daily reports, and maintain technical documentation.Experience with Chassis and/or Towable Chassis Dyno is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Tools is required. The position requires travel 40% of the year for remote testing and the ability to provide clear directions to achieve test objectives.

This is a fully on-site position in Redford Charter Township, Michigan.

Work Environment

In-office, onsite position with travel required for vehicle testing. Travel requirements include 6-18 weeks during the summer and 6-18 weeks during the winter, with two weeks on the road followed by two weeks back. Expectation is 40% travel. The role includes 400-800 hours of overtime per year, almost all during the testing season, paid at the normal hourly rate.
