Job Description
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Vehicular Crimes Unit (VCU) is responsible for preparing, assisting, and advising Assistant District Attorneys in the prosecution of all New York Vehicle and Traffic Law ( VTL) cases in Bronx County. A VCU Trial Preparation Assistant is responsible for obtaining and providing prosecutors the necessary case documents/records and video/digital media to prepare a case for discovery and trial prior to arraignment of the case, as well as assist in this function throughout the pendency of a given case through trial and sentencing.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain, copy, distribute and maintain Calibration Reports which include: Calibration Reports, Field Unit Inspection Reports, and Simulator Solutions.
Obtain, copy, distribute and maintain Gas Chromatography Reports
Obtain, copy, distribute and maintain PBT Reports
Obtain, copy, distribute and maintain Health Card Permits of NYPD Highway officers.
Obtain, copy, log, download, distribute and maintain IDTU recordings
Obtain, copy, distribute and maintain Dash Camera recordings
DMV Liaison - Respond to officewide live and email requests regarding DMV requests
Log, order, print, distribute, and maintain requested DMV Abstracts/Compass reports/documentation
Compile all necessary paperwork necessary for analysis concerning compliance matters
Prepare necessary court documents required for Interlock Ignition Device/SCRAM violations
Track and calendar all officewide IID compliance matters
Create unit folders associated with compliance matters
Maintain and update all unit spreadsheets, which include statistical data that is provided to the District Attorney
Retrieve and recreate files; order court documents, including court orders, minutes and certificates of disposition
Answer telephone calls directed to Unit Chief and other Managers
Direct calls to the appropriate places and respond to general inquiries
Assist with creating, obtaining, distributing, and maintaining paperwork for Conditional Plea cases.
Management of ordering office supplies for the unit
Correspond within office and outside agencies including NYPD, OCA DMV, and Citywide Monitoring unit regarding scheduled IID matters
Retrieve necessary documents, and videos from OCME and Highway 1.
File and maintain all pending and finished cases.
Recreated VTL statues to allow the Assistant District Attorney/TPA to understand the statue more efficiently
Engage in contact and communication with NYPD, Court staff, TASC coordinators, Citywide Monitoring Unit, and Assistant District Attorneys
Ability to draft and prepare legal conditional plea agreements, status sheets, and other legal documents
All other relevant duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree preferred or a high school diploma with four (4) years of work experience in a law firm, governmental agency, civic or community organization; and or a paralegal certificate and two (2) years prior work experience in a law firm or a governmental agency;
A valid New York State driver’s license with a minimum of one (1) year of driving experience is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment
Familiarity with general court procedures, services, and functions
Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to take initiative to implement systems that ensure work is done both accurately and efficiently
Discretion and integrity to work on highly confidential investigations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with general court services and functions

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
