EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Veterans Assistance Counselor 2 by the level of work performed and by the supervision received. Examples of Work Serves as an office manager trainee in a parish office counseling veterans concerning their legal benefits under state and federal laws. May assist higher ranking officers in conducting programs. Functions in a public relations capacity in a parish for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Assists veterans and their dependents in completing a variety of forms to actuate their benefits. Reviews benefit claims when processed to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Provides assistance to veterans such as admissions to U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs Hospitals, correction of military records, or securing proper care for physically or mentally disabled veterans.
