This position is located in Bossier City, LA. The Veterans Assistance Regional Manager for the Northwest Region manages all parish Veterans' Contact Assistance programs in the region assigned. This incumbent will have direct subordinates, and receives direct supervision from the Deputy Assistance Secretary for Contact Assistance.
The position will be filled by promotion of a permanent LDVA employee.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus four years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services; OR
A master’s degree plus three years of experience in veterans service work, administrative services, or social services.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NOTE:
Incumbent may be required to provide a DD-214 as evidence of being an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces who served on an active, full-time basis.

Differs from Veterans Assistance Deputy Director by the absence of responsibility for assisting in directing all Department activities.
Examples of Work
Supervises all employees of the veterans contact assistance program in a region of the state, the New Orleans Claims Office, or administers the State's Veterans Assistance Programs.
Administers the State Educational Assistance Program, the State Military Bonus Program, and other applicable Veterans Assistance programs by establishing, verifying applicant eligibility and process to completion.
Prepares all news releases and publishes the Departmental publication, SERVO.
Analyzes all changes in veteran laws and regulations issued by state and federal authorities. Prepares and distributes technical bulletins to keep all employees advised of changes in federal/ state laws and regulations.
Plans, organizes, and implements a statewide training program for Veterans Assistance Counselors through assessing training needs, identifying resources, establishing priorities, designing/delivering training, and evaluating training results.
Prepares the budget for the region or area.
Inspects the parish offices to determine compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Promotes Veterans' Assistance programs by meeting/addressing organizations, civil groups and public officials.
Reviews the most complex and controversial claims submitted by subordinates.
Assigns Veterans Assistance Counselors to parish offices to relieve absent officers.
