**Veterinarian** MD/Medical Philadelphia, PA, US Pay Rate Low: 65.00 | Pay Rate High: 75.00 + Added - 15/11/2024 Apply for Job **Job Title:** Academic Research Veterinarian **Location:** Philadelphia, PA **Pay:** $65-75/hour **Position Summary:** The Academic Research Veterinarian ensures the health, welfare, and ethical treatment of laboratory animals in a research environment. This role involves providing clinical care, regulatory oversight, and training to support research activities. **Key Responsibilities:** **1. Clinical Care:** + Deliver preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic care for laboratory animals, including rodents, non-human primates, and other species. + Perform health assessments, surgical procedures, and treatments to ensure animal well-being. **2. Regulatory Compliance:** + Actively participate in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to review and approve protocols for ethical and humane animal use. + Ensure compliance with institutional policies, USDA regulations, Public Health Service (PHS) Policy, and AAALAC International standards. + Maintain accurate medical and compliance records for inspections and audits. **3. Training and Mentorship:** + Design and deliver training programs on animal handling, anesthesia, surgery, and ethical practices for researchers and staff. + Mentor veterinary students, residents, or interns engaged in academic research. **4. Research Support:** + Advise researchers on protocol development, including selecting appropriate animal models and experimental techniques. + Contribute to preclinical study design, execution, and data interpretation. + Publish and present research findings to advance veterinary and comparative medicine. **5. Program Leadership and Development:** + Support continuous improvement of the animal care and use program. + Lead responses to challenges, including disease outbreaks or protocol deviations. **Qualifications:** **Education:** + Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited institution. + Advanced training (residency or equivalent) in laboratory animal medicine or related specialties is preferred. **Licensure and Certification:** + Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in [State/Region]. + Board certification or eligibility with the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) is highly desirable. **Experience:** + Experience in academic research, laboratory animal care, or biomedical research. + Knowledge of care and use of rodent and non-rodent species in research. **Skills and Competencies:** + Expertise in animal welfare, research methodologies, and biomedical science. + Strong interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills. + Proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. + Analytical and problem-solving skills for research and protocol development.
