This role involves providing clinical care, regulatory oversight, and training to support research activities. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in animal care and scientific discovery within an academic setting. **Location:** Philadelphia, PA **Pay:** $65-$75/hour **Employment Type:** Contract-to-hire **Responsibilities** + Deliver preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic care for laboratory animals, including rodents, non-human primates, and other species. + Perform health assessments, surgical procedures, and treatments to ensure animal well-being. + Actively participate in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to review and approve protocols for ethical and humane animal use. + Ensure compliance with institutional policies, USDA regulations, Public Health Service (PHS) Policy, and AAALAC International standards. + Maintain accurate medical and compliance records for inspections and audits. + Design and deliver training programs on animal handling, anesthesia, surgery, and ethical practices for researchers and staff. + Mentor veterinary students, residents, or interns engaged in academic research. + Advise researchers on protocol development, including selecting appropriate animal models and experimental techniques. + Contribute to preclinical study design, execution, and data interpretation. + Publish and present research findings to advance veterinary and comparative medicine. + Support continuous improvement of the animal care and use program. + Lead responses to challenges, including disease outbreaks or protocol deviations. **Requirements** + Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited institution. + Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Pennsylvania. + Board certification or eligibility with the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) is highly desirable.
