Veterinary Assistant - Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine (CBEAM) – Bothell, WA Job Type: Full-Time About Us The Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine (CBEAM) is a specialized veterinary hospital dedicated to providing high-quality care to avian and exotic species. Our team is passionate about the unique needs of exotic pets, and we are looking for a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our growing practice. Position Summary As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians in delivering exceptional care to exotic animals. Responsibilities include assisting in physical examinations, administering medications, preparing patients for surgery, and providing nursing care. Additionally, you will help maintain a clean and organized environment while ensuring client communication and education are handled professionally. Key Responsibilities + Assist in checking in patients and obtaining information from owners + Clean, disinfect, and prepare medical equipment between appointments + Administer vaccinations and medications as directed by veterinarians + Assist in preparing animals for surgery and monitor post-operative care + Handle, restrain, and comfort animals before, during, and after procedures + Take notes on examination results and update medical records + Feed, bathe, and monitor animals during their visit + Provide client education on post-care instructions and general pet care + Ensure exam and operating rooms are stocked and sterilized + Change bandages, bedding, and kennel materials + Assist in collecting lab samples (blood, urine, etc.) + Communicate with pet owners regarding recovery instructions + Maintain cleanliness of cages and kennels + Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required Skills & Abilities: + Strong verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills + Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment + Comfortable handling animals, including exotic species + Willingness to learn and work as part of a team Preferred Experience: + Previous experience in a veterinary practice is highly desirable + Experience handling exotic/avian species is preferred but not required + High school diploma or equivalent required Schedule: + 4x10 shifts/week + Open availability preferred (one weekend day required) Compensation: + $19-25/hour DOE Perks & Professional Development: + Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs): + $1,000 annual Continuing Education (CE) budget + 40 paid CE hours to fulfill licensing requirements + Mentorship from our Lead LVT, a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS), for those pursuing their VTS + Veterinary Assistants (VAs): + Support for professional growth through the Penn Foster program, with partial tuition sponsorship (employment agreement required) + Additional Benefits for All Positions: + Overnight shift differential: $1.25/hour + Champion & Ambassador opportunities: Additional compensation for specialized roles and responsibilities Benefits: + Medical, Vision, Dental Insurance (Full-Time Employees) + Paid Time Off + Quarterly Bonus Pay + Employee Pet Discounts + Employee Assistance Program + 401K Plan (Full-Time Employees) + Uniform Stipend If you are passionate about animal care and eager to expand your experience in exotic veterinary medicine, we encourage you to apply!
