This position will involve assisting our Admission team in appointments, preparing patients for surgery, creating treatment sheets and other paperwork, opening sterile supplies and instruments in the O.R, and most importantly being the right-hand assistant to the Admission doctor. These duties include preparing paperwork for appointments, ensuring treatment sheets are started and patient is on correct whiteboard in Smartflow, reviewing bloodwork and lab results with clients at the doctor’s discretion, assisting with client communication, ensuring tasks are being completed for transfers to the surgery team. Make sure exam rooms are clean before and after occupied by each patient. Take temperatures, pulses, respiration and weights as need. Obtain proper brief histories asking open ended questions for maximum information. Check on client until the doctor arrives in the exam room and be prepared to handle client concerns. Appropriately restrain animals (dogs, cats, ferrets, etc.) Have supplies prepared for doctor exams and procedures. Communicate with technicians in hospital about tests and procedures need for patient. Admit patients properly completing all necessary paperwork and Smartflow tasks communicating with surgery flow tech if they are transferring to a surgeon. Review schedule appointments and assess flow for each day. Recognize contagious situations and follow all infectious disease protocols. Perform procedures as directed by Doctor and ensure they are recorded on the treatment sheet in Smartflow. Review medical records and notes made by the CSRs and doctor to discern the nature of the visit and any tests or procedures that may be needed. Keep doctors apprised of potential problems. Obtain laboratory samples including blood, urine and feces, cytology, skin scraping and cultures and order laboratory tests appropriately. Assist in procedures including, bandage and splint application and changes, remove sutures and drains, surgical and wound clip and prep and cleaning. Administer, monitor and recovery of sedation in accordance and hospital regulations. Maintain patient daily records, treatment sheet, and other forms required in hospital. Enter charges and patient status in ezyvet. Admit and discharge patients. Review medical records and lab work, keep doctor apprised of potential problems. Basic technical skills: TPR, venipuncture, catheterization, obtaining samples, restraint, surgical prep. Check laboratory values to make sure they are within normal limits and notify doctor if they are not. Assist with anesthesia in accordance hospital procedures. Preform call backs for client questions regarding but not limited to: medication administration, post op surgical questions, and patient demeanor. Communicate with clients regarding in hospital patients as needed. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Highly competent technical skills Strong interpersonal skills to kindly and effectively interface with our team, clients, and referring veterinarian using tact, patience, and a very high level of professional courtesy Consistent and reliable ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, client invoices and estimates, and other position-related calculations Desired Qualifications: RVT, LVT or equivalent experience, we are willing to train highly competent and kind team members to become surgical technicians. Confident in ability to place IV catheters, blood draws, run lab work, create treatment sheets, Cleaning ORs, helping patients out of the OR.
