Veterinary Assistant: Swing and Overnight

Pacific Northwest Pet ER & Specialty Center is a state-of-the-art, 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital in Vancouver, Washington. Primary Responsibilities:

Manage and provide for the patient’s needs in the emergency department by assisting licensed technicians and veterinarians with patient care. Assist technicians with radiographic procedures. Prepare and run lab work. Obtaining accurate patient histories. Client communication Acurate record-keeping. Patient discharges. Restraint of patients for IV catheters, physical examinations, and minor procedures. Complete treatments of patients as assigned in a timely manner. Provide exceptional nursing care. Fill pre-printed prescriptions if a Med Clerk License is held. Basic drug calculations. Initiation of fluid therapy. Patient care of stable patients in isolation. All employees will be scheduled and expected to work rotating holiday shifts in the emergency and critical care departments. All employees are required to participate in the on-call rotation as needed. Shifts are subject to revisions and changes at the discretion of the hospital. Perform other job duties as assigned. Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a minimum of two years of experience in veterinary medicine. ER preferred. Must have a valid high school diploma or GED. Knowledge of patient handling and restraint. Excellent communication skills. Strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations. Ability to act as a team player, adhering to all core values of the hospital.

Employee is required to: sit, stand, walk, talk, see, and hear. Employee is occasionally bending/stooping, climbing, reaching above shoulder, kneeling, balance, and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 40 pounds.

This position may occasionally use repetitive motion.

Salary: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
