Veterinary Extern - General Practice Clinton Parkway Animal Hospital
NVA
Clinton Parkway Animal Hospital has been a trusted member of the Lawrence, KS community for 50 years. Through our comprehensive approach to medicine, we have built a reputation for being the place that pet owners come to when Fluffy has a problem that no other veterinarian can figure out! Our 5-doctor / 3-RVT team includes an ABVP diplomat in Canine and Feline medicine with clinical teaching experience in small animal dentistry, as well as clinicians trained in complete abdominal ultrasound. We are AAHA-accredited and well-equipped for in-house diagnostics, including hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis equipment; digital radiography; dental radiography; and ultrasound. Student externs will spend time with one or more veterinarians observing wellness appointments, diagnostic workups for sick pets, routine surgical and dentistry cases, as well as emergency surgeries as available. Externs will also spend time in exam rooms with clients allowing for valuable communication practice, as well as attend weekly rounds with our doctor team to discuss challenging cases.
Externs can also experience what makes Lawrence such a popular place to work and play – great restaurants, a vibrant downtown with a live music scene, outdoor recreation including Clinton Lake and the Lawrence Loop bike trail system, and of course, college sports. (Rock Chalk Jayhawk!) Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
