Veterinary Extern - General Practice Friendship Veterinary Center
NVA
Friendship Veterinary Hospital is a small and growing practice. We're unique in that we operate in a small town and are actively working on elevating the level of medicine that our clients expect.
Our team consists of one full-time veterinarian, three part-time vets, and a few very skilled support staff. One of our most important values is that we practice a "no shame" culture. This means that we meet our clients with kindness, even if they have financial limitations or understand medicine differently than our skilled team. We meet each other and our clients where they're at so we can do right by their pets. Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Friendship Veterinary Center are offered to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
