Hopkinton Animal Hospital is AAHA-accredited as both a General Practice and an Exotic Referral Practice, staffed with a high number of CVTs and 100% Fear Free Professionals, and currently offering ABVP Residency programs in Canine/Feline Practice and Exotic Companion Mammal Practice (ABVP – Avian or Reptile & Amphibian residency programs likely available) under the founder and owner.
Patient caseload is dogs, cats, and a high-level of exotic pets. We are also the “go-to” for the New Hampshire State Fish and Game Department and the locally known wildlife rehabilitator, Wings of the Dawn, for injured wildlife.
Qualified candidates are looking to gain experience in exotic pet case management including surgery, husbandry, and diagnostics. We are a continual learning organization with staff passionate about exotic pets.
Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences at Hopkinton Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All Veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
