Veterinary Extern - General Practice Peaks View Animal Hospital
NVA
Peaks View Animal Hospital is an eight-doctor small animal general practice with a high emphasis on surgery and internal medicine. An AAHA-accredited practice, our practice strives for the best in quality care. With a staff of over fifty, including several licensed veterinary technicians with over decades of experience combined, we have the technical staff in place to support our doctor group. We offer routine and advanced surgeries including advanced orthopedic (TTA, TPLO, fracture repair) and advanced soft tissue surgery. We pride ourselves in being a local referral practice for much of our area and have extensive knowledge in ultrasound, endoscopy, and dentistry. Our recent hospital expansion also includes an underwater treadmill where we house our full-service rehabilitation center offering laser, acupuncture, and therapeutic exercise. With our vast array of doctors and staff, we are able to offer a wide variety of veterinary services and provide a great opportunity for senior students to see and learn about both surgery and internal medicine.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Peaks View are offered to veterinary students in their final clinical year of veterinary school. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
