Veterinary Patient Care/ICU Technician or Assistant
Position Overview: The Veterinary Patient Care/ICU Technician/Assistant will provide advanced clinical care to critically ill or injured patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and other hospital areas. This role requires a highly motivated and skilled individual who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in emergency and critical care, along with a strong understanding of patient care and monitoring. Key Responsibilities: + Provide direct nursing care to ICU patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and performing medical treatments as prescribed. + Assist veterinarians or emergency technicians in emergency procedures and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques when needed. + Perform routine patient assessments, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate monitoring. + Monitor critically ill patients for changes in condition and report findings to veterinarians. + Assist with diagnostic procedures, including blood draws, catheter placement, and radiographs. + Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper documentation of treatments, procedures, and medications administered. + Work collaboratively with veterinary staff to develop and implement care plans for hospitalized patients. + Ensure a clean environment in the ICU and other treatment areas. + Communicate effectively with pet owners about their pet’s condition and treatment plan. Qualifications: + Veterinary Technician License (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred but not required. + Previous experience in an ICU, emergency, or specialty veterinary setting is highly desirable. + Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and equipment. + Ability to handle a wide range of critically ill patients, demonstrating a calm and compassionate demeanor under pressure. + Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. + Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. + Basic proficiency in medical software systems and record-keeping. Physical Requirements: + Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 pounds. + Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced environment. + Comfort working with potentially ill and difficult-to-handle animals. + Ability to bend, kneel, and crouch.
