Veterinary Perfusionist
Job Description: Perfusion Support
- Provide perfusion support for patients undergoing open-heart surgery at the Small Animal Hospital, including, but not limited to the following duties:
a. Be responsible for sourcing needed disposable equipment for circuitry and perfusion.
b. Operate a heart/lung machine and other ancillary support equipment.
c. Administer blood, blood products, anesthetics and drugs through the extracorporeal circuit.
Fellowship Training
a. Develop an organized perfusion fellowship training program and train veterinarians in the skill of perfusion.
Post-op patient Care Advisement
a. Provide care input for post-bypass patients if needed.
b. Communicate in a clear and timely manner with cardiologists and ICU nurses for the post-op care of patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass / perfusion.
Commensurate with experience
Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's of science in perfusion, or a bachelor's degree and completion of a perfusion training program.
Preferred Qualifications:•Clinical experience providing cardiopulmonary bypass for either a minimum of 3 years for people plus at least 1 year for animals OR at a minimum of 3 years for animals
•Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine
