Veterinary Surgery Assistant

 

Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH) is looking for a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our surgery department.

About the Role:

The veterinary assistant that we are looking for will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe surgical department in addition to:

· Support technicians and doctors as needed

· Support other departments in the hospital as needed, leadership guided

· Safe, low stress patient restraint for catheter placement and medication administration

· Assist in smooth transition between each surgery and/or consultation

· Assisting with laboratory tests and radiographs

· Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper documentation, logging, and security of    controlled drugs.

· Assist with the set up and break down of the operating room

· Assist in sterile procedures by opening/unwrapping sterile packs & instruments and giving them to the surgeon or surgical assistant in a sterile fashion

· Clean and sterilize surgical instruments using gas and steam sterilization techniques

· Maintaining stock & organization of equipment and supplies for surgical department

· Performing daily, weekly, and monthly department tasks and maintenance of equipment

We are looking for someone with excellent attention to detail and someone who is a team player and likes to work within a diverse group of technicians and doctors.

About You:

Minimum 2-3 years’ clinical experience in a progressive veterinary hospital Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational skills; proactive thinking and a positive attitude are also a mustAbility to work in a highly collaborative environment and a commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is requiredMaintain a positive outlook and ability to work well in stressful situations

Pay Range:

VA:  $23 - $30 per hour

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials.

Schedule:

4/10 hour days.  Days to be determined

Must be available on weekends and holidays.
