Job Description:

The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs collaborates with the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine in establishing the strategic, clinical, and operational goals for emergency medicine. This individual serves as a crucial intermediary between internal and external stakeholders and assumes executive responsibility for the department's primary clinical objectives. This includes overseeing the formulation, execution, and longevity of the department's clinical positions, priorities, and initiatives. The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs closely collaborates with both the Chair and the Executive Vice Chair of Academic Affairs to ensure congruence between the clinical and academic missions.

Major Responsibilities include:

Strategic Development:

Assists with key recruitments for Division and Department Leadership positions. Develops, implements, and manages a clinical strategic plan that ensures consistent growth and success across all missions. Works to ensure that the University of Florida College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, and UF Shands clinical goals are integrated and aligned. Works closely with department leadership to develop and manage a Clinical Services Agreement and governance. Understands and reacts to departmental, organizational, and external business drivers, opportunities, and threats. Sets priorities and key metrics to ensure aggressive growth goals across clinical missions. Strengthens current clinical programs necessary to achieve the DEM and COM vision and goals. Works with department leadership to create and implement new clinical programs to achieve the DEM vision and goals. Ensures alignment between all units by meeting with the divisions regularly. Work closely with the Chair, the Executive Vice Chair, and the VC of Administrative Affairs to ensure a united vision and shared priorities for the DEM.

Leadership:

Represent the department with internal and external clinical partners. Responsible for developing strong relations with clinical departments and hospital leadership. Work with the clinical divisions to understand their unique challenges and identify opportunities within their units. Provide leadership in developing off-campus clinical programs. Support the DEM Chair, Executive Vice Chair, and Vice Chairs in all strategic initiatives.

Operational Oversight:

Serve as trusted partner and advisor to DEM Chair. Work closely with site Medical Directors to establish new care pathways and ensure integration across Provide mentorship for operations-focused faculty. Participate in annual clinical Division reviews and set key success metrics for the clinical divisions. Integrate and balance the DEM’s missions across the department. Ensure DEM clinical vision and goals are met by ED sites and clinical Division leaders. Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

All physicians must be Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine ABEM/ABOEM Board Certified/Board-Eligible. Associate Professor or an equivalent combination of Assistant Professor and clinical leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer 8+ years’ experience in operations leadership, experience leading EM in a complex multihospital system, experience in an academic setting, able to join as an associate at minimum. Formal training in MBA or similar program preferred but not required. Demonstrated track record of mentoring/developing junior faculty in both operations and administrative areas. Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic department and working with other departments. Has strong interdisciplinary team leadership and followership skills. Strong direct management skills and experience managing emergency medicine faculty within a complex healthcare system Participation at the regional and/or national level of Emergency Medicine. An understanding of the complexities of academic life and the interactions between departments (divisions), hospitals, and health care systems. Special Instructions to Applicants:
