Introduction to Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions

BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) team is the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on the full toolkit of index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver detailed investment outcomes and innovative alpha insights. Our team of 600+ multi-asset investment professionals construct active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels. Currently, MASS handles over $2 trillion in assets and has a strong presence in the Americas, EMEA and throughout Asia Pacific.

Position Overview

The Business Management team in MASS coordinates non-investment operations, design and delivery on pivotal initiatives, and ongoing delivery of a robust and scalable operating platform across MASS. MASS is seeking a VP to join the Operating Platform Team (OPT) within Business Management, reporting to the global lead of OPT. This position is a NY-based role which requires interaction with many key partners, including Portfolio Management, Product Strategy, Business Operations, Legal & Compliance and Aladdin/Technology. The successful candidate will partner with various functions inside & outside MASS to progress initiatives related to process workflow improvements, operational risk mitigation, technology, analytics, data and attribution.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Improvement & Risk Mitigation

Project Management: Lead local/regional platform and technology projects and collaborating on global platform efforts; Ensure clear project structure and communication appropriate to the scale and complexity of the project to partners, team members and portfolio managers

Platform Change: Represent MASS on select larger PMG, Investments or Platform-wide regulatory or operational initiatives. A recent example includes transition to T+2 to T+1 standard settlement for US, Canada, Mexico public markets.

Operational Risk: Coordinate response and remediation for op events, while ensuring appropriate communications to senior management; subsequently, drive risk remediation discussions to mitigate future operating risk

Data & Permissions: Navigate and manage permissions structures for Aladdin, Azure Dev Ops, Wiki and other PM tools

Model Risk & AI Management: Work with investors to enforce firmwide Model Risk framework & navigate new AI policies & guidance,

Internal Audits: Supervising & assisting on internal audits as liaison between Internal Audit and MASS

Private Asset & MNPI Governance – Work with Compliance on inquiries for non-public deal opportunities and reviewing impact for deals inside and outside MASS and their impact.

Workflow Enhancement & Implementation: Perform and document Investor/PM and wider MASS platform workflow reviews

Technology, Data & Analytics

Collaborate with key technology and operating business partner, such as Aladdin Daata, to drive MASS tactical & strategic priorities to completion, such as improving 3rd party & BLK fund data model.

Understand and continuously self-educate on how MASS PMs leverage the Aladdin toolset (PfC, A4, Pi, Capital Flows Entry, Astro, Dashboard) in order to predict issues and think of creative and practical solutions to technology & analytical obstacles

Implement new tool functionality and introduce to MASS, including organizing team training

Assist on-desk citizen developers to navigate the Software Risk Policy & Standard

Localized Business Management

Be a local contact for oversight of compliance policies like FINRA registrations, information security and marketing materials

Work with local team leads in NYC to own space planning solutions

Lead local business continuity planning

Support efforts with hiring managers to onboard new hires seamlessly

Skills and Qualifications

Proven experience (7+ years) in financial services, with sound knowledge of investments platform, including BLK Aladdin

Strong process awareness with ability to recognize and address operational risk issues, including navigating and influencing partner teams

Experience in reviewing and designing business processes, including for technology challenges and end-to-end operational workflows, with a demonstrated ability to implement and deliver those designs

Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment

Effective communicator possessing excellent verbal and written and visual/presentation skills

Self-starter personality with excellent attention to detail


For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$137,500.00 - USD$194,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
